
“I knew that the umbilical cord that I had with my previous life was now broken and that everything would be completely different,” said Porter Halyburton, a retired U.S. Navy Commander with Fighter Squadron 84, as he recalled the moment he was taken as a prisoner of war.
“Any father would be proud, no matter what profession, if his son decided to follow in his footsteps,” said U.S. Marine Corps Master Sgt. Christopher Lisle, the Expeditionary Firefighting & Rescue Chief with Marine Aircraft Control Group-28. “To share the title of Marine and to share that bond is something that we don’t really speak about, but we have become closer and share more than what we used to.”


Sgt Lina Fuerte, a legal services specialist with the Defense Services Organization, Headquarters and Support Battalion, Marine Corps Installations East-Marine Corps Base (MCIEAST-MCB) Camp Lejeune, was recognized as Marine Corps Installation Command’s Noncommissioned Officer of the Year for 2023 and awarded a Navy Marine Corps Achievement Medal (NAM) during a ceremony on MCB Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, Feb. 16, 2024.
On Jan. 16, 2023, Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) New River welcomed members of the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) and their four CH-146 Griffons, allowing them to use Marine Corps Installations East (MCIEAST) airspace for three and a half weeks to conduct their flight instructor and flight engineer course for the third time since 2018.


Earlier this month, the Equal Opportunity Office on Marine Corps Base (MCB) Camp Lejeune hosted A Walk Through History, a Women's History Month event that included a static display of female Marine uniforms and memorabilia from 1943-2023, remarks from a panel of female Marines, and a discussion about female Marine history.
